Vera Wang Spring 2013

Recently I had the pleasure of visiting Vera Wang's Sydney flagship boutique to experience the bold gowns of her 2013 Spring Bridal Collection. The twelve gowns, in shades of vibrant crimson and scarlet reds, reflect Vera's Chinese heritage and the significance of such colours within the culture. In Chinese weddings the colour red represents good luck, happiness and joy. Combine this with the universal themes of passion, fire and love and you are left with a colour that embodies all of the elements of a great love story.

Walking through the collection I couldn't help but get a sense of witch craft from the darkest of the gowns. Their plum tones, layered textures and volumous skirts reminded me of mystical fairytales. I also loved the swimsuit back of the Karen gown that Vera has recently featured on her blog. She describes the gown perfectly as exhibitionist, futuristic and fierce! It was statment elements like these that took me by surprise. These gowns don't shy away from making a fashion forward statement, a refreshing injection in to the world of bridal design.
Each gown is available in ivory but for the bold bride Vera's red gowns can be viewed at the Intercontinental Sydney from February.

I hope to see more plum tones gracing the pages of bridal fashion in 2013.
