En Pointe: 50 Years of the Australian Ballet

In Celebration of the Australian Ballet turning 50 we look at ways to incorporate ballet style in to your wedding. Think pink satin, fun tulle, bucket loads of blush and a little woodgrain texture.

Mastering the trend

There are some elements of ballet that you can't go past for inspiration. Firstly, the shoes. Perfectly pink pointe shoes conjure up all sorts of pretty imagery. Todays simple ballet flats are a comfy alternative to keep those feet dancing long in to the night.
Next up, the hair. Meticulously pulled back in to a bun and often adorned with a shining tiara. On your wedding day, adopt a more relaxed bun that softens the face and if you are considering a tiara, make it front and centre.
Fabric, fabric, fabric and lots of it. Interpreting a 'ballerina' look for your gown can take many forms. Some, soft, flowing and simple, others structured, bold and layered. When embracing the ballerina look if it is feminine and you feel like busting a move in it, then I say why not?
The colour. Obviously the pink inspiration we have taken from the ballet world came from the pretty pink pointe shoes, blush tights and tulle. It is also useful to take in to account the brown of the floor and barre, as well at the white and cream tutu's that so often take to the stage. These colours can be used to offset the pink tones and woodgrain can be incorporated in the form of planter boxes, cane charger plates or hessian table runners.
Keep an eye out for our ballet inspired mood board.
